So, random things:
More so just so that I can post this and remember, I did some stalking on the Amazon and Arctic casts. Which is difficult because only ONE of the Amazon cast has their full name online and only like 3 of the Arctic cast did. Turns out that I literally can't find anything about anyone from Amazon... can only do so much with first names. And the only full name I have is Georgia Groome which sucks because she's an actress and has everything on private. I really loved this cast too and they seemed to have a great chemistry (minus Jamie) which sucks... wish I knew what they were up to and if any of them stayed in touch.
But I did find some of the Arctic cast, those whose last names aren't listed anywhere: Emily Batty, Alex Rachel McKay, Lewis Leybourne, Adam Hughes (Emily and Alex still seem to be friends after all these years, commenting on each other's posts as recently as 2016). Emily and Alex are also both friends with Courtenay on FB (who was Miss Wales 2010 and is now married under the name Courtenay Guy). Emily and Alex are also both friends with Lewis. Lewis is friends with Adam and from what I can tell, that's the only person Adam is friends with on FB. And Fabian doesn't look to keep in touch with ANYONE, but he's a vet now so that's cool. Can't find Jennielyn anywhere except an article from 2010 even though she has a rather unique name, and can't find Matt anywhere because he has a really common name.

EDIT: Okay wow this is a looong post and I know I'm kinda speaking into the void here because no one's really seen Serious but I loved this show almost as much as Endurance and I have THOUGHTS okay...
Anyway, I've rewatched Desert and Amazon so far and seen the main episodes of Arctic (haven't seen the diaries yet but getting to that) and it's been such a blast reliving one of my fave childhood shows. I always dreamed of, like, flying to the UK and trying out for Serious because it seemed so amazing. In reality I don't think I could've done this show at all. It really seems like they were doing the REAL DEAL of doing these expeditions. It was really, well, serious.
Desert just proved all along that it was my favorite season. I just love that cast so much. The location was unique and gorgeous, the expedition interesting, the cast was fun to watch and everyone contributed something to the show, the editing was great and there were many story lines... it was just really good. It's kinda awesome to see how much they can pack into 6 thirty minute episodes. I recommend anyone who wants to watch Serious to start with Desert or Jungle (I haven't rewatched Jungle yet because it wasn't working. I emailed BYUTV and they said they would fix it. Desert was always my personal fave but Jungle was like an "E3" of Serious - just an iconic season).
Amazon was actually really great too, and I was surprised by the fact that I seemed to enjoy it more on the rewatch than I expected. I remember I always liked this season a lot but the cast really stood out this time around. I will say that it is a notch below Desert because Jonathan was quite filler (despite his quote "I've had the best night of my life" being played on every commercial break on DK circa 2008) and kinda Georgia as well. But the rest were great to watch and like I said, this cast had a great chemistry minus the whole Jamie conflict. Bethany, Cally, Sam, and Simran were my favorites and I am just so frustrated that I can't figure out what happened to any of them post-show!
Even though I haven't seen the Arctic diaries episodes yet, I have to say that my low expectations for this season were accurate. For some reason, I just remember when Serious was airing that I never liked Arctic as much as the other seasons. I remember just not getting excited when they were airing Arctic and just waiting for the next season to come on. I thought maybe on a rewatch I would either figure out there was no reason to feel that way and it was just as good of a season as any other... or I'd figure out why. And I definitely think I figured out why. First, the cast was... not great. There was NO chemistry. It didn't seem like they liked each other at all, to be honest. And their personalities weren't distinct. When I think of the girls, I think of Jennielyn and then I think of Courtenay, Emily, and Alex literally as one entity. Because that's how they functioned on the show... one entire basic white girl clique. I actually thought the guys had better characterization, but also all the guys except Matt kept getting "lazy" story lines and that aggravated me. Also, there was just so much conflict and it never seemed to get resolved. In previous seasons, there was absolutely conflict but either they learned to work together on their own (i.e. Aimee and David from Desert just learning to ignore each other) or the leaders would step in and mediate the conflict (i.e. everyone on Amazon agreeing that they don't like Jamie but they can be cordial with him). But on Arctic, literally every episode people were fighting and the leaders were stepping in trying to smooth things over... LITERALLY until halfway into the final episode, Emma has to step in because the girls are bullying Jennielyn again and Lewis is pushing Fabian... like, three weeks spent living together in a hostile, remote environment and y'all can't learn to get along? And even with people who weren't always fighting, I feel like I know nothing about them or their personality. Jennielyn was the main focus of a lot of the interpersonal dynamics but I found her... quite annoying, tbh. And I know she was only 14 but she seemed way too immature to be on the show. And I liked Matt, but I literally don't know one thing about him other than he seemed to be the only responsible one on the whole show. I just... idk, on other seasons I could tell you who was friend with who, what every person contributed to the expedition, what their personality was like, etc. and I don't feel like I can do that with anyone from this season.
The second thing is I feel like this season's location was actually uh, too extreme. Everyone just seemed... miserable all the time. Probably why they never got along, lol. But whereas in other seasons they seemed to get used to their living conditions, again up into the final episode they are still struggling to cope with the elements. And there didn't seem to be anything... fun to be gained out of their location (except for seeing the northern lights. that looked awesome). But, like... in Desert they played on sand dunes and in Amazon they swam in the river... but on Arctic they........ sat in a tent most of the time. Like literally. It seemed like a logistical nightmare trying to coordinate this expedition. Like the fact that these storms could come in at any time and they were forced to just sit around in their tents and wait for them to pass. Like, wtf. Also did they go in the winter? Why were all the lakes and stuff frozen over. Like why couldn't they go in the summer...
Also, it didn't seem like they were very successful at any of their tasks. And their tasks were quite boring. Desert they built a camel enclosure, hiked through the desert, and tracked black rhinos. Amazon they canoed through the Amazon, removed illegal fishing nets, and built a monkey enclosure. Arctic they DID actually dogsled through the arctic so I'll give them that much. But one of their tasks was supposed to be tracking polar bears which they didn't get to do because they had to sit in their tents for days on end because of a blizzard. Welp, there goes that. Then their other main task at the end of their expedition was.... taking ice core samples. Wow, so exciting. Not. And you can tell the kids were trying so hard to be excited for it but they knew it was not fun LOL. And overall they just didn't seem successful at anything they did. Like, even in their training they were supposed to make an igloo and they couldn't even do that in time and had to have it done for them.
Idk, I think the final few minutes of the seasons really reveals the nature of them. On Desert and Amazon, you had the kids being all teary eyed and exclaiming how sad they are to leave this amazing journey. Meanwhile, on Arctic, you have the kids literally jumping for joy and all they can talk about is how happy they are to go home. Like... it was a good season in theory, but I think the actual logistics of trekking through and working in the arctic were just too difficult for a group of 12-15 year olds and it didn't turn out great.

It’s a neat little show. The episodes are divided so the first 6 are the main show and all the other episodes are the “diaries” so like confessionals and stuff. And like I said, they are like seriously isolated in the middle of the wilderness lol it makes Endurance look like a five star resort.

Posting to keep track for myself... after some stalking I’ve found everyone from Andes’ last name except Will...
Caitlin Brennan, Erin Fulton, Kylie Mautenyane Sarah Monts, Liam Nixon, Josh Williams, Matt Palmer
EDIT: Found Will under Erin’s Instagram (she follows everyone except Liam and Kylie who I don’t think have IG). His name is William James Holstead and literally his username is “seriouswill”. But what’s interesting is he doesn’t follow anyone else, even Erin?

I have been looking for Serious Ocean and Serious Livingstone for YEARS! So glad to have found it on BYUTV (seriously, Brigham Young University has its own channel?) I am very glad, because I get to catch up on the seasons I never saw plus finally get to watch Livingstone! I came across this board looking for names of the kids in Livingstone. I can't find out definitively whether or not the three kids, Cassie, Matt and James actually witnessed Anton Turner's death or not. I worry for them - it would have been traumatic.

I’m a little worried to watch that one. I don’t think I ever saw any seasons after Andes (did DK even play them??) but just knowing what happens in Livingstone, it’s gonna be hard to watch.

So DK only had the first 5 seasons (Jungle, Desert, Arctic, Amazon, Andes) so those are the only ones I've seen. Jungle is a classic though!!! The love triangles and drama are so fun. Andes has some crazy drama too. I'm less of a fan of Arctic (for reasons explained in this thread) BUT I think it's the only season that, like, won an award... What'd you think of the seasons you've seen so far? Desert is my fave with Amazon 2nd. I want to watch the other 2 or 3 (I think it's, like, Ocean, Raleigh, and maybe one more?) as well. It's a shame the way the series ended.

It would be cool to see the show come back, but I doubt that would happen because of child labour laws.

What if Serious did a all-star season? Like the viewers got to vote each week on their fav explorers from each season, and then the top two explorers from each season get to go a another expedition? Who would you want on this all-star season? What would the location be?
