wow! our first heated or passionate discussion on the boards. first of all, i don't think this thread is out of hand yet and also, i don't think anyone has been exceptionally offended by people's comments. however, I do want to remind you to follow the board rules and respect others and not personally attack anyone. you can avoid violating these rules by sticking to discussing the topic of the thread (see subject if you have forgotten). if we keep to this we should be fine. just keep in mind some people have more passionate opinion than others... ok so my contribution to this topic, someone said up thread that Obama was not born in the US. actually he was born in Hawaii. it was already the 50th state when he was born. McCain was born in Panama, in US military base which is sovereign US land. scott, lol! your state is a blue state i don't necessarily agree with Obama and his proposed policies but i'm amazed on how he became president. voter turn out has to be a record and different demographics coming out to vote and who voted for him. mccain didn't stand a chance although i favored him...

ok...we gotta make sure this doesn't get out of hand. Debate..not argument, fight, etc. and ilove2endure I'm glad you brought this up..its interesting and eye-opening to hear what other people have to say.
First off, I was an Obama fan ever since he started running because of almost everything he stands for. The challanges he has faced to the speeches he makes are really inspiring to me. Two, I never liked Bush..mainly because he wanted war..and i hate war. I hate what it does to families and moreover the little peace the world has. It also spoils the good opinion people have on the US..but i dont mind this too much. One of my friend's relatives is off at war..and when she talks about him, it just makes me want to cry.
And third, look at the economy and what born2beweird says may be right. and as I've said before, I don't completely blame bush for the economy..but i still blame him. And then 9/11. How many families were torn apart because of this. And I realize that this could happen during anyone's presidency. But how did bush respond? War of course. Like we haven't lost too many lives already. We hear of bomb blasts, suicide bombing in Iraq everyday...and did you ever wonder how many innocent children are affected by them. The fear of not being able to walk outside your house. the fear of losing your life or losing your parents. And the families of the soldiers, how about them. What ever happened to peace? Whatever happened to right to life and pursuit of happiness? I dont know about you guys but I can't honestly sleep undisturbed knowing that innocent people and soldiers who should live long happy lives are slaughtered everyday.
Sounds superficial? But its reality. and I admire McCain for his services to the country. No doubt. but Obama...he's hasn't even been raised in the US and still overcomes all the racism, all the violence and brings back what this country needs now. Unity. Love. He doesn't want wars, he doesn't want violence..he wants us to be the America we once were. The America that stunned the world. And as biased as this may seem, he's what we need.
Slavery ended many years ago but still today we discriminate. And I love Obama for having Arab and Black descent. I love that he goes against everything that the US is used to, that he is black and his middle name, most of all. It shows that Muslims aren't what we think they are. And I know many people somewhere deep inside, if not obviously, discriminate them. And so this is another reason I think we need Obama.
Wow..that took a while to write..sorry if i got a little emotional. I'm human..forgive me. And I'd love to hear replies to this. No matter your opinion.

" scott, lol! your state is a blue state" lol don't remind me, it's suffocating here! ;p ;p In response to luckycharms, war is a horrible thing, and it should not be the first option in any situation, but it is extremely necessary in some situations. It would be great if we could all be one big, happyn world, but it's not going to happen, and if another country is going to attack us, we can't be sitting idly by while we wait for an attack. About soldiers, no one is forcing them to go to war. Thank God we don't have a draft, and that means every soldier stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, or elsewhere right now had decided that was what they needed to do to defend their country and loved ones. Lastly, about war tarnishing the US's reputation- I don't believe that whatsoever, because our whole history has been full of wars - Not silly ones, either, but wars that shaped history for the better. We fought for our Independence from Britain, we fought to end slavery, we fought to protect other countries as well as our own in both World Wars, and now we're fighting to stop the threat of terrorism from destroying everything we stand for, our loved ones, country, and alliance members. One last comment, I don't believe ethnicity should be brought into it at all, because as bad as it is to not vote for someone because of skin color, it's just as bad to vote for someone for skin color. Don't take this offensively, I'm speaking as both a member of this forum expressing my opinion and someone who's been working for over a year with other kids in my state to support Republicans in the 2008 election, and to get John McCain elected president. It's really dissapointing not only when your candidate loses, but everything you've been working hard for falls apart.

I'm going to refrain on some of my very personal politic beliefs to ignore drama. I wasn't too thrilled with either candidate, and for each one, I liked a certain issue. I liked Obama wanting to take out the troops, but I'm extremely passionate about McCain's pro-life belief. I'm a Catholic, and in our church, abortion is simply murder. But don't take my opinions to heart!!! Everyone's different beliefs is what makes them unique!

I totally Agree. I HATE Abortion. it is so wrong.
And a reason I didn't want Obama to win is because if he takes our troops out right now that means there just gonna sit over there and plan another attack on america. Just my opinion.

wow luckycharms this is soooooooo freaky `cause i agree with almost everything that you just said.i support obama `cause he wants 2 use alternatives 2 fuels and what he wants 2 do with terroism and education.i respect mccain with his experiance with war and that could help us,but i don`t like the fact that he wants 2 drill oil we need alternatives besides fuel. i like the fact that everybody`s expessing their opinions but try not 2 offend obama/mccain supporters.`cause you did kinda offend me with some of your opinons on the 1st page but that`s ok.

lol don't remind me, it's suffocating here! ;p ;p [hehe]Maine=Smurfville Scott=Gargamel[/hehe] wow you are really passionate about this... i hope you don't feel that you've put so much work and have not gained anything. i take comfort that our democracy works. we saw it in action this week and made history! in the next 70 days or so we will see a peaceful transfer of power from one man to another. something that in other places in the world it just doesn't happen.

thanks ilove2endure. I thought I was getting outnumbered here.
Ok..you guys say that the war was about the safety of our country. Then are we that selfish that we are willing to risk the safety of another country for our sake? I hope not. But I agree..we do have to protect our country..but if Bush hadn't waged the war I wouldn't have minded his presidency so much except for the economy. But still, if it was about the safety of our country..why couldn't he just tighten security ten fold (not that he already didn't..i miss the days i could walk into the airport thirty minutes before my flight's takeoff and still get on) and then search the country for the groups responsible for the attacks. I don't think he had to go off and pretty much indirectly kill hundreds of innocent men, women and children. I don't know how he goes to sleep every night with the guilt of killing lives of children so young. Maybe he doesn't feel guilty. But I do..even though I don't support him, i still blame myself partly for everyone that is killed/slaughtered there. (I know im over sensitive.)
Bush went into Iraq in search of arms/weapons of mass destruction. The UN went with him..and they found nothing. But he still waged war. And technically this war is illegal..according to the UN a guy from there said so himself. But it was made legal by a mandate. but why didn't other countries go against it? Well because we are the global superpower and we get to do pretty much anything and no one will question us.
But w/e i could care less about rules but it is lives of people that i value. As i've said before..he could have kept troops in Iraq after the search for weapons to search for these groups but he had to wage a war didn't he?
And yeah..I agree the soldiers went cuz they wanted to serve the country..but at this time with their lives. not so necessary,i think. Ok but what about the innocent people in Iraq and Afgan that are killed? They don't matter?
This war has really hurt the US's reputation. The previous wars we fought were for good cause. You say this is for a good cause? I go back to just tightening security and searching would be the right thing to do..if we are gonna be there. I was travelling and also chat with people i meet. So there was a group I met and somehow this topic came up and one guy's like the world used to really admire the US for its democracy and equality and wonderful opportunies but after this war, its really changed the opinion because they believe in staying out of another country's personal matters. and most of them agreed. I probably couldn't sit and watch a country or someone ruining themselves and would have helped them if they asked. And in a way that's what Bush did, just they didn't ever ask him for help. but who knows it could be for their own benefit in the long run. but I still don't think he should've forced it on them.
And I just wanna say that I don't completely disagree with McCain. But for the most part, i do. Another thing about Obama is that he wants to find alternate energy sources..which is a big thumbs up from me. I hear my dad complaining about gas prices ALL the time.
And I didn't want to bring Obama's race into consideration..but comments on the first page made me..i couldn't stop myself. As for abortion..i think it is as bad as war. Killing an innocent child before he is born is as bad as war to me. but in some cases, even if i dont agree, it should be allowed. And I know McCain is anti-abortion but i'm not sure if he disregards some cases in that so I can't be sure. but no matter..Obama still wins over me.
We can't ever be a peaceful world? i disagree..i have hope that this world will one day be war-free and we should lead by example. I like Obama for his hopes of talking out problems insteading of fighting...because when we fight..we get no peace out of it. he reminds me of MLK. And talking about MLK, he was non-violent, and look what he achieved. You could say we had a war though..so then take Gandhi for example, he brought independence to India in a peaceful manner. Might seem unrealistic now, but we only if we try.
And Scott..and what i'm gonna say right now might hurt you and I wanna say I know you probably said it out of frustration because everything you worked for didn't work out (and I really admire what you did) but i have to say because I know other people are probably feeling it too. I just wanted to say that even if McCain had won...i wouldn't want him to fail. honestly..not at the sake of our country. I would still want him to succeed..even though i dont support him. I really hope i didn't hurt anyone's feelings. If i did i'll stop posting on this topic right now. just voicing my opinion and getting to know others. a friendly debate is all i want it to be.

First off, I want to say I liked both candidates
And Obama is NOT a socialist, the whole "Obama is a socialist thing" probably started with Hillary Clinton's socialized health care policy.
And for people who say Obama did a lot of things when he was younger that make him a bad person, that was then and this is now. Nobodys slandering McCain for cheating on his first wife.
My problem with McCain was the whole nuclear power plant issue. I just don't want those here.
As for Obama, I don't think he has enough experience, but that's what Biden is for.

Please please please don't take offense at anything I say, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, I just want to give my honest opinion.
War is going to happen, no matter what anyone says, or no matter how hard we try and change it. Just look at the history of the world, wars have been going on since the beginning, and they're going to keep happening until the end. Even if we do manage to avoid war for a time, it always comes back. I hate it, I completely disagree with war, but that's just the way it is.
I'm not saying I agree with Bush for going into Iraq, but refusing to go into war doesn't keep other countries from bringing the war to us... Even if we did tighten security (which we have), I don't think that would stop terrorists from getting in. If Bush had just sat back and done nothing, how many people do you think would be complaining about him not caring about our safety?
Bush did make a HUGE mistake, I definitely agree with that, but if you think about it, he had no way of knowing at the time how bad it would turn out. How could he have known that so many innocent people would lose their lives because of it? I'm sure he wasn't planning on it turning out that way, and I'm sure he also has regrets now. Could he really be hard-hearted enough not to care about all those people? Especially after he tried so hard to help them? He had to make the choice, without the help of congress, and he did what he thought was the best thing he could do for our country. It was a very difficult situation, and I admire him for trying to lead this country to safety, even if he didn't succeed.
