I like E-4. But audiences love to have someone to hate. Someone who comes across so mean or like such a rat that you want them off so bad & you can not believe anyone can trust them. (Nicole ring any bells?)
But E-4 was a very strong cast as far as friendships. There did not seem to be all the back stabbing. I liked it because of that, but people may have missed the drama.
Commercials always show the drama & "I can't believe it" moments to suck people in. There were not as many in E-4. But I still love it!!

i was going to comment that E4 sucked because it came after E3... but it seems this thread is talking about E3 now... which is arguably the best season.... I remember when Monroe soaked Reece and Chris's bunks just before trip to temple... that's just classic! I agree. Hawaii was such an awesome season that it would have been incredibly tricky to follow it up with another season just as good or better. I remember when Hawaii was ending, they were showing the new eps on Saturdays on NBC, but old eps were on DK. When an episode aired on NBC, they'd bump it to Monday and Friday on DK. The next week, it'd be on Thursday on DK, then Wednesday, and then Tuesday. Despite the fact that I wasn't a big fan of the "row your boat" episode that gray team dominated orange in, I still fully enjoyed that season and missed it when E4 started airing.

Ah, the very ill-fated situation of being between two dramatic seasons, each one with an underdog, a strong alliance, and arguments. E4 is a nice break from the drama from E3, as the conflicts were not as...dramatic.

I think all the competitors also got along. Well for the most part.

I loved E4 because it was mostly drama-free and everyone supported each other for the most part!
However this is probably why a lot of people found it boring, especially after the drama-fests that came directly before and directly after.

i think maybe there wasnt much twists it was kinda your standard endurance there was drama haha of course but myabe it was just a bit of a let down after an intense season 3 and then maybe forgotten about after and epic season 5 but i still liked it, i really liked all the kids on this season and how they were all so close I totally agree! With like everything. No one hated eachother, and no one wanted to hurt anyone (samahdi, temple Etc.) And season 3 and 5 were the top favs of everyone so it made e4 look bad. It did start the twist of "last place team goes to temple!" Other than Isaac vs Jeszie, everyone basically got along. And yeah, two of my favorites were 3 and 5. One and two were also very good, but 4 was definitely a drop-off.

This was the 1st season I watched on premiere schedule in its entierty. It wasnt memorable for afew reasons. 1-The really simple missions (Even the chance to make a mission they screwed up) (No physically challenging missions either. Just teamwork based missions) 2-The cast (I think the only interesting people the whole season were Erika (<3), Jezzie, and Issac. 3-The location (Please dont get me started. An actual desert would have been cooler) 4-The ending of 8 teams (Whyyyyyyyy!? D:) Those are some reasons I could think as to why E4 wasnt as interesting as the other seasons. Spin Fly? Or was that not too physical?

Host Casey's post is 10 years old, but I disagree that no missions in E4 were physically challenging. Of all missions involving accuracy/a team trying to hit a target from all 6 seasons, Spin Fly was indeed the most physical (except for possibly Island Hopping from E6, where the teams had to run down their missed shots).
Also, both Drop Out and Circle of Trust in E4 were physical missions, all about who could endure the longest. It probably seems like E3 Ring of Fire, E3 Out on a Limb, E5 Walk the Plank, and E5 Fill and Spill were more physical, but arguably they were all less physical in that only one player from each team put forth a large amount of effort, whereas in Drop Out and Circle of Trust both members of a team could do that. (It did seem like not everyone in E4 tried as hard as they could in those two missions, but Erika certainly did.) The E3 and E5 missions may be more iconic, but they're not more physical.
I suppose one could also consider race-type missions to be physical. E3's Jungle Relay (superteams), E5's It's a Drag, E2's Tower of Power, and E6's Sand Bar Relay (Mana Kisi) were all more physical than any of E4's races (Blocked, Raft Pull, Super Stumped, Waterworks, Hang 5, and CYOG). I'd argue, however, that all of those E4 race missions I listed except Super Stumped were more physically difficult factoring in the required contributions of both players on a team than quite a few of the other race missions from the other seasons (E1 Knotted Up, E1 Plant the Flag for the person who was being pulled into the air, E2 Rollerball, E2 Plank Maze, E3 Pipeline, E3 Balance Ball, E3 CYOG, E5 CYOG, E5 Fill 'er Up, E6 Memory Race, E6 Stand Bags).
Also, they did not "screw up" the CYOG in E4. It's actually the best CYOG of all 3 seasons with a CYOG. E3's CYOG had a fairly good plan, but the lack of a symmetrical layout made it inherently unfair. (Seriously, go watch it on YouTube; Demian did not do a good job placing most of Gray's pieces compared to how Monroe placed Orange's or Chris placed at least a few of Yellow's.) E5's CYOG was extremely simple; there was drama during and after the mission but that doesn't mean the contestants' plans were good. It was much too repetitive.
It's funny that there's a complaint about too many teamwork-based missions for this season, because in another thread someone complained about E4 NOT having enough teamwork.
I also disagree with the criticism of the cast. Daniela was a great superfan, and the development of her partnership with Jonathan was a really well-developed storyline throughout the whole season. Franke wasn't really shown stirring up drama at camp, but he was pretty entertaining in his interviews. Kylie didn't get a ton of screentime, but in Waterworks and Fireball, she showed that she was quite perceptive. If the only thing that makes a contestant "interesting" to someone is being either utterly dominant at some missions or causing drama, that seems like a pretty narrow viewpoint. In fact, I'd point to Blue Team's performance in the game as a contribution to the relative lack of drama. After exposing their alliance with Gray early on, they were (correctly) targeted by the other teams for that. But they managed to survive past two more eliminations after Gray left, and didn't get the Samadhi twice when they otherwise could have. Why? Well, Isaac and Amelia got close, and Blue Team as a whole intentionally tried to lay low and NOT stir up drama (they didn't attempt to intervene in the Isaac-Jeszie fight, or push hard for Green to go to Temple after Super Stumped even though Green leaving would probably have been better for them in the long run - probably because it made Purple happier to not push for Green at that stage).
As for the location, I could grant to Host Casey (or anyone else reading this) that it wasn't the most exciting or the prettiest. But an actual desert wouldn't have had any ability for water-related missions like Raft Pull. Unless, of course, they went to somewhere like Lake Havasu along the Colorado River...in which case the overall appearance would have been pretty similar to E2.
8 teams can be a good thing, but I don't love everything about seasons with 8 teams. Two of the twists in the 8 team seasons - specifically, the pieces-stealing Samadhi in E3 Pipeline and the Triangle of Immunity in E5 - were awful. To the extent that a larger season means that the producers feel like they have to include more twists, that's not a good thing if the twists themselves aren't good.
Bottom line - I like E4, and I don't need drama like E3/E5 to be entertained.
