Apparently E2 is the only season without a confessional count, so I'd figure that I'd do one of my own (especially as it's E2's twenty-year anniversary). Also, I hope chrisl123 comes back to check up on these numbers! Drop Out: In which everybody rides on donkeys, Bear makes his TV debut, and we have a few unexpected drops. Simone: 6 Trey: 5 (Simone and Trey has to have the most characterization of any of the contestants on the RTS. Too bad they weren't able to make it further in the game)Scooter, Mike: 3 Calley, Christa: 2 Michelle, Shep, Maryelle, Glen, Sarah, David, Annie, Abbey, Wayne: 1 Phil, Jeff, Jacquelynn, Tyler, Keetin, 0 (Neither member of the future Red Team has a confessional this episode) Wash Out:In which everybody wants Jacquelynn, and gets an unexpected surprise. Calley: 5 Jacquelynn: 3 (Curiously, for how much everybody wants her as a partner, we don't get why the boys have her in esteem. Release the tapes, J.D. Roth!)
Michelle, Annie, Christa, Mike, Wayne: 2 Phil, Shep, Maryelle, Scooter, Tyler, Keetin: 1 (Tyler and Keetin have their first confessionals this episode. Scooter also says "none of us like the Brown Team" in the next episode, but I counted it as a confessional from this episode)
Jeff: 0

The next three episodes, featuring Green making tough decisions and Orange not getting along...
Tower of Power:
In which the alliances are consolidated, we learn about how homesick Tyler is, and a curse persists.
Keetin: 5
(What a way to make up for having only one confessional in the first two episodes)
Tyler: 4 Michelle, Shep, Annie: 3
(Interesting that Shep has more confessionals than Calley in this episode)
Wayne, Maryelle: 2
(That awkward moment when Simone, who hasn't made it through the RTS, has more confessionals than either of them individually)
Jacquelynn, Calley, Scooter, Jenna: 1 Phil, Mike, Christa, Jeff, Max: 0
(Surprising how Mike has no confessionals, seeing he won the mission. Also, another episode without Jeff speaking to the audience)
Fireball:
In which we get an iconic challenge, Purple is targeted, and we learn that red is the color of love...
Michelle: 4 Tyler, Shep: 3 Scooter, Jeff, Jenna: 2
(Jeff finally gets his first confessional here!)
Phil, Calley, Keetin, Annie: 1 Jacquelynn, Mike, Christa, Max: 0
Rollerball:
In which we have a roll, the girls really focus on Annie, and Red gets an unpleasant surprise.
Jacquelynn: 4 Michelle, Keetin, Annie: 3 Phil, Tyler, Calley, Mike, Max: 2
(Max gets his first confessional on E2 this episode)
Jeff, Jenna: 1 Shep, Scooter, Christa: 0
(This is the first episode on E2 where Scooter doesn't have any confessionals. But I'll bet the next two episodes will more than make up for them.)
Some observations as we go to the second act of the season: --Is it just me, or is Red one of the most under-edited teams ever? They have a couple of storylines here and there, but they don't get to show it in confessionals. --Curiously, Christa had no confessionals in Tower of Power. Especially with how she played both sides of the pro-Brown and the anti-Brown alliance, and tried to acertain her plains with said teams. --Frequently, one team member dominates in confessionals (e.g. E1 Yellow, E5 Green), but it seems to go back and forth depending on the episode. I expected Calley to be the dominant storyteller on E2 (which she still is), but I'm surprised on how Shep had more confessionals than her in Tower of Power and Fireball. Green seems to go back and forth between who's the dominant storyteller, though it seems like Keetin is winning this time. (The straightest example is with E2 Purple, with Annie dominating the storytelling between her and Jeff) ----It's also interesting because I'm honestly not sure who would win the confessional count.

They have a couple of storylines here and there, but they don't get to show it in confessionals. Yes, E2 Red is pretty under-edited, especially for a team that wasn't the first to leave their season. I'd also say E3 Red and E5 Orange were pretty under-edited. It looks like E2 Red had 12 total confessionals (Jacquelynn and Phil combined) in 5 episodes. E3 Red had 19 total confessionals in 9 episodes (not counting the recap). E5 Orange had 12 confessionals in 9 episodes (again not counting the recap). So on a confessionals-per-episode basis, E3 Red and E5 Orange were worse, but I do think it would be fair to state that the substance within E2 Red's confessionals may have been the worst of all 3 teams.
I can think of 2 reasons why the editors might have done this - either they wanted the audience to be as surprised as E2 Red was that they were sent to temple and eliminated, or they felt they needed to invest more time in the teams that shaped the rest of the season. Unlike, say, E3 Green who had a close friendship with E3 Yellow, E2 Red didn't really have any really close friendships that were shown or discussed on E2 at all, so their exit didn't have a big impact on any other team.

It's interesting because in Fireball, Phil and Jacquelynn seem to have feelings for each other, but it wasn't fully expanded on because of their early elimination. In addition, in the "Contestants who deserved a better edit" thread, there's also that gaping hole in which Phil claimed he was close with Green. However, there's no proof of that in the final edit. It seemed like Green sent them up because they would be the least mad of anybody left.

The next three episodes have probably the best three mission run of any season of Endurance. Tide Pull:In which the contestants go kayaking, Max starts making deals, and Calley claims that somebody's picking on her. Scooter: 6 (Curiously, in his Endurance reaction video, he pointed out that he got the most screentime in the premiere. However, Tide Pull is where he had the highest number of confessionals, or at least by my count.)Mike: 5 Calley: 4 Christa: 3 (And with that, Christa almost doubled her total confessional count up to this point!)Keetin, Max: 2 Jenna: 1 Tyler, Michelle, Shep, Jeff, Annie: 0 (When I was about to watch this episode, I thought this would have the most balanced confessional count--of which I was wrong. Also, this is the first episode where Annie has no confessionals, which doesn't come at a really good time considering Calley breaking down at the Cove.)On the Ropes:
In which multiple conflicts finally erupt. Scooter, Christa, Jeff: 4 (I think this is the first episode where Jeff has more confessionals than Annie. Not only does he describe what's going on, but he starts getting worried because Annie is rubbing the girls the wrong way.)
Annie, Max: 3 Shep, Calley, Keetin, Jenna: 2 Tyler, Michelle: 1 Mike: 0 (Now things start to get more balanced.)
Face to Face:In which Annie and Calley patch things up, but their teams are still in danger. Max: 5 Calley: 4 Shep, Annie, Jenna: 3 Jeff: 2 Tyler, Mike, Keetin: 1 Michelle: 0

Cherry Picker:
In which Yellow comes at a crossroads, Max's dealing amplifies, and a storm brews a Temple.
Mike: 7
(Surprised Mike ends up having the most, seeing that he has little involvement in the episode. Maybe he's just a good storyteller?)
Max: 5 Calley: 4 Shep, Annie: 3 Michelle, Keetin, Jeff, Jenna: 2
(Michelle's little confessional after Orange making the final four has to be a highlight from this season. "Who would have thought that Orange would make it to the final four?")
Tyler: 0
(We're so close to having all the remaining contestants speak, haha. Also, Calley's total confessional count would put her in fourth on Endurance: High Sierras; she has one more confessional than Connor does.)
Aqueduct:
In which Orange finally works together, and face a tough decision.
Michelle: 5 Tyler, Mike: 3 Annie, Max: 2 Keetin: 1 Jeff, Jenna: 0
(This is the first episode since Jenna returned where she doesn't have any confessionals. That said, I don't think she'll have the most confessionals--Max more than made up for the first few episodes of not talking to the audience.)
Plank Maze:
In which leadership helps, Max pulls off a deal with Purple, and we get a clash of the titans.
Mike, Annie, Max: 4
(Also, the main strategic nexus of the season up to this point.)
Tyler, Jeff, Jenna: 2 Michelle, Keetin: 1
(Finally the first episode where all the remaining contestants have something to say to the audience.)

The endgame! Pathfinder:In which Purple haunts Brown from the grave, Michelle wants to win for her mom, and people try to find their path. Tyler: 5 Mike, Max: 4 Michelle, Keetin: 3 Jenna: 0 (Jenna having no confessionals this episode is surprising, considering that it's the final three and usually confessional counts balance out by then.) Final Mission:In which the contestants play an old-fashioned game of "chase"! Mike: 14 (?!) (Mike has more confessionals in this episode than Christa has the entire season. I didn't make that up for you. Also, is this a record for most confessionals in an episode?)Max: 7 Keetin, Jenna: 6 The Finale:In which we crown a winner! Max: 6 Jenna: 5 Mike, Keetin: 3 Conclusions:1. Mike: 48 confessionals/3.43 per episode 2. Max: 40 confessionals/3.33 per episode 3. Keetin: 31 confessionals/2.21 per episode =4. Calley: 25 confessionals/2.78 per episode =4. Annie: 25 confessionals/2.27 per episode =4. Michelle: 25 confessionals/2.08 per episode =4. Jenna: 25 confessionals/2.08 per episode 8. Tyler: 22 confessionals/1.83 per episode 9. Scooter: 18 confessionals/2.57 per episode 10. Shep: 16 confessionals/1.78 per episode 11. Jeff: 13 confessionals/1.18 per episode 12. Christa: 11 confessionals/1.57 per episode 13. Jacquelynn: 8 confessionals/1.6 per episode 14. Wayne: 5 confessionals/1.67 per episode =15. Maryelle: 4 confessionals/1.33 per episode =15. Phil: 4 confessionals/0.8 per episode --tiebreaks are determined by the average confessional count. If Endurance 1 had the girls running the show (in terms of the highest confessionals), then E2 has the boys at hand. Max coming in so high is not surprising, seeing that he always has these schemes in which to get himself ahead. But Mike winning the overall count? I was kind of surprised by that. Probably because Mike has a pretty thoughtful way at looking at the game, and his confessionals reflected that. Or maybe he was the "straight man" in terms of the variety of characters at hand. Haha. This doesn't mean that the girls didn't have anything of substance--we have a four-way tie for 4th between Calley, Annie, Michelle, and Jenna. Calley stands out in particular because amongst those who "made it past day three" (thanks Mister Ham), she spoke at least once in every episode. I also felt like Calley was a lot more earnest when she spoke to the audience, especially when it comes to conflicts and such. On the other hand, Jenna having that few was surprising, especially considering she won her season. Maybe editing has to have something to do with it? She mentioned in the 2020 RHAP podcast that the editors wanted to answer questions with a certain way, so it translated in a lower count because they might not have found what they liked. Scooter has a notably higher average confessional count than expected considering when he was eliminated, at 2.57 in seven episodes. Had he made it to the end, at that rate, he would have 36 confessionals--enough for third this season. On the other hand, Jeff has a lower average confessional count, at 1.18 in eleven. Goes to show you if you get involved with the game, then it will reflect in the confessionals involved. Other observations: --Mike's confessional count puts him at fourth in the all-time count (behind Nicole, Monroe, and Sabrina). Also, he's one of only two boys to win the confessional count, the other being Franke from E4. --Going into this, I thought Keetin would win the confessional count, because she had a perky personality and has a pretty good way of communicating to the audience. 31 isn't bad (would put her in first on E5 and E6), but I'm surprised that she spoke less often than I thought. --It maintains the same balance as it had for E1, with 12/22 contestants having more than ten confessionals. --Did Maryelle have a better edit than I thought? She spoke in every episode she appeared in, though it felt like it didn't amount to much. --E2 is truly an overlooked season. As always, if I counted something wrong, let me know and I'll fix it!
