While I do get Tyler's logic for throwing the samahdi out of the game at final 4, I think his initial plan to handicap Green was the better choice.
As Tyler points out to Michele, Green has absolutely nothing to offer them. They're the only team left without multiple pieces, and are the most likely team to send them to temple should they win (which almost happened next episode). So if they give it to green, they don't upset the top dogs (Brown and Purple), and is still in a position to not get sent to temple next round.
I would also like to point out that his decision to take the samahdi out inadvertently screwed purple team over the most. If green is handicapped, I have to assume Jeff/Annie win the next temple mission given how close they were behind green. That would mean Green/Brown are booted to temple, and if Green comes back, Purple cruises to the win.

But in this case, Orange wouldn't have likely inherited pieces as Brown would have likely given their pieces to Green or vice versa. Purple would still be in the lead and Orange would only have 2.
I suppose there is a bit of what if on who would have won the final temple mission if Brown wasn't there but I don't see Orange doing particularly well in the final piece mission due to their struggles in the more physical type missions if they somehow managed to make it to the finals, giving them a disadvantage in the golden pyramid game.

In this case, it worked out for Orange, as they managed to get all of Purple's pieces after they got eliminated, albeit for one day. I could see the argument in that Green could've sent Orange to Temple for a third time, and they would've been eliminated as a result. At the same time, it also depends on what's inside the Samadhi. Green might overcome it, which could lead to the same outcome. Even if Purple won and sent Brown and Green up, whomever gets eliminated would give their pieces to the other.
