After endurance: Tehachapi, there was a top ten games special in which the fans voted for their ten favorite missions from the first four seasons. I was thinking of doing my own, and so I sorted it out using a sorter and this is what I've got! What do you think?
Honorable mentions go to Timeline, Cliffhanger, Raft Pull, All Tied Up, and Move it Along.
#10: Fireball (e2)
It was so epic that it was voted back for season four, though it didn't have the same epicness in it(do not accept any imposters). Out on the sea, one player launches a ball to their teammate; if they caught it, they would be able to eliminate somebody who missed. I remember it for the Calley-Scooter shouting match when Christa caught the second ball, the waves, and that epic final round between Purple and Green.
#9: Knotted Up (e1)
The first ever Temple Mission is super underrated--the contestants have to weave their bodies around a knot to loosen it up. I thought it was a fun challenge; I like the mix of brain power and teamwork involved to undo the knot. Notable for showing that Aaron and Jonna were a threat, though it wasn't easy--the Red Team were close behind!
#8: Out on a Limb (e3)*
You remember this mission for one thing--"Monroe, you're a beast!" One of the best iterations of an endurance challenge, in my opinion.
#7: Face to Face (e2)*
Another fun endurance challenge, it involved the contestants hanging onto a rope as they are lifted above the Sea of Cortez. Probably best known for *Mike and Keetin falling before they could be lifted up, and Purple winning a key challenge--had they not, they would've most likely gotten the Samadhi. (Also, didn't the result put Yellow in the danger zone? This and another mission showed how weak Calley was, and probably put their role in the GYB alliance in dispute).
#6: Ring of Fire (e3)*
For some reason, the contestants hitting the ring and it igniting was definitely one of the best visuals ever. In contrast, Ring of Fire took place as it was raining ("and here comes the rain..." is a common refrain), and featured a lot of effort from the contestants (and Alex taking breaks, haha). Also featured Kareem's "this is bad!", which is one of the funniest moments from this season.
#5: Tilt (e1)*
I'm not sure how well I would do in this challenge, but it felt like Tilt was quite fun (so much they also brought it back for Karma)! Holding onto your partner over the ocean after a platform moves at an angle, what's not to like (except if you're afraid of heights)? And Gray throwing the challenge because they didn't want to be seen as a threat.
#4: On the Ropes (e2)
Best known for Scooter and Max's confrontation near the end, but it just shows how competitive it was! Trying to direct your blindfolded partner across a maze is definitely a challenge, and one that's really impressive. Blind Faith tries a similar game with the same concept, but it just falls flat in comparison.
#3: Spin Fly (e4)*
This mission is so fun Jonathan wanted to do it for the heck of it. The final pieces mission involved running on a platform to give the other teammate momentum to spin around, and then throw sandbags. It just works so well, both in theory and in execution. (I could still hear Jonathan going "Thank you everyone!" as I'm typing this, haha). It also provides a reversal from e1, in that e1 dropped the ball with its final mission, whereas e4 saved the best for last.
#2: Tide Pull (e2)
Something about this mission is so much fun--first one teammate kayaks as far as they can go in thirty seconds, before another tries to pull them back to shore. (I haven't tried kayaking, as I'm not sure how strong of a swimmer I am, hehe). Alliance-based missions frequently go either way, with Squaring Off being considered one of the worst missions in all six seasons, for example. But I love the intensity involved with this challenge and how fast it went (and Scooter's post-game commentary: "It tells me that the Blue Team is superior"), as well as Max and Jenna bagging their first win!
#1: I'm Pulling for You (e3)
This mission is definitely high on the fun factor, but also shows how important teamwork is. Rappelling and going down on a pulley system, the partners have to get twelve foam pyramid pieces to the top. Kind of fitting this occurred when Nicole and Demian's teamwork was at their worst, haha!
