Tristan: Where do you live and what do you do for a living?
Kelsey: I live in Oregon and I’m working on my PhD in Neuroscience
Tristan: What was the Endurance process like for you?
Kelsey: I was really excited, but super intimidated by the other contestants. On the first day, I remember thinking that everyone was so much stronger and tougher than me and there was no way I’d last. I never actually stopped thinking that, but I got used to it. I really loved the whole thing though, despite the anxieties. I remember going through something of a grieving period when the show was over. It was such a special experience and even though I was tired and dirty and wanted to sleep on a mattress, I wasn’t ready for it to end.
Tristan: How did you hear about Endurance?
Kelsey: They were holding auditions in a building in Dallas that I happened to be in so I tried it out. They didn’t invite me on the show that year, but asked if I wanted to try again the next year.
Tristan: Was being in a nationally televised competition different then you expected?
Kelsey: I don’t think I knew what to expect.
Tristan: Who were you closest to on the show?
Kelsey: Dakota and I were probably closest, but Taylor, Connor, Max and I became really good friends. We all visited each other a couple times after the show.
Tristan: Do you still keep in contact with anyone from the show?
Kelsey: Taylor mostly
Tristan: Is there anyone you wish you kept in touch with?
Kelsey: I think I have the kind of relationship with the friends I made on the show that I could message them at any point and catch up. So I don’t feel like I’m necessarily out of touch with anyone.
Tristan: Has Endurance affected you and your life in any way?
Kelsey: It was a really great experience, but I don’t know if it affected my life in any appreciable way.
Tristan: If you could do Endurance over again would you?
Kelsey: If I could be 13 again I would.
Tristan: If so, what would you do differently?
Kelsey: I’d buddy up with Taylor and Connor sooner. I’d also bring a back-up pair of contacts. I lost a contact on the last day and had to do the slingshot mission only being able to see well out of one eye. Not great for depth perception.
Tristan: Were you a fan of the show before watching and did you watch any seasons after?
Kelsey: I actually didn’t watch much Endurance before I went on the show.
Tristan: What were your favorite missions from the show?
Kelsey: I remember really liking the superboats one.
Tristan: Did you feel you were portrayed accurately on the show?
Kelsey: I’m not sure. I don’t remember feeling misrepresented.
Tristan: It's been a long time since Endurance: High Sierras has aired, do you have any memories that stand out?
Kelsey: One time when we were eating dinner I bit into a cherry tomato and the juice rocketed out the bottom and hit Connor in the eye. The memory still makes me chuckle.
Tristan: Have you ever been recognized from being on the show?
Kelsey: A couple times on the internet, but not in real life.
