I have no clue if this has been answered before especially after 15 years, but what was up with this season and the Temple of Fate only having the singular cauldron when all 5 other seasons have 3 (1 for each element)? It just seems so random, but I was always somewhat amazed at how they pulled it off compared to the other Temple of Fates, considering there seems to be a lot more mechanics and other stage-trickery involved.

I always wondered this too?! I would really love JD or a former producer to sit down and do an in depth interview/expose on Endurance. And not just the basics, like all the nitty gritty of production details like this one too. I just don't get how they got the shot from only one cauldron.

I agree! didn't the cauldron light up the color of the element too? there's no way it actually did that with just JD and the contestants. very confusing!!

I think the color was done in post-production because they did it in other seasons too around the rim of the cauldron and sometimes the tracking would be a little off.

Bit late on this but there were a lot of questions I had about the Temple when I was younger such as
- How did the producers know which element they chose? - Where would the eliminated team go after the temple? - It only happened three times on the actual show, but I wondered how many times teams picked the same element and it was cut for time - Where can I find the music from elimination - Finally, were the fire cauldrons gas controlled? Would that be how they’d make the flame bigger for an elimination?

Would that be how they’d make the flame bigger for an elimination? --From what I've heard, the contestants write down each element twice--one to hand to J.D., the other to give to the production crew to know which element to choose. --Hmm, I think they go back to civilization afterwards (Chelsea mentioned going to Avalon, a small town on Catalina Island in her AMA; Scooter went to a hotel with his family, as mentioned in her podcast; the Fiji crew stayed at the hotels until the next flight arrives) --Probably more than what they shown on TV. carsonvega hypothesized that the ties were shown to indicate a notable team that didn't make it to the finale (in the case for e2 Purple and e4 Green), so that's a possibility, though I'm not sure. --I tried to contact Pei Pei on FB messenger and Instagram in November, but she never replied back to me. You can try to message her about the soundtrack but don't expect much. (both under Pei Pei music) --From what I've observed, I think the editing team overlays a larger flame (e1 and e3) or another shot of the cauldron (e4, e5) to show that the team has been eliminated.

Here's what we know.
The contestants write down the elements twice, as said. What we don't see is them handing their picks to the production team. (It's also possible they write them once and then let the production crew see it, but a contestant did say twice.)
Eliminated contestants are given a few moments to say final goodbyes. They're not taken back to camp, but back to the hotel. From there, IDK if they're allowed to stay or not. If they stay, I'd imagine the families pay, although I'd imagine that may be tough if the room is already booked by someone else.
I'd imagine they get on the next plane home. Over in the Karma forum, Jack(?) mentioned that he was already waiting for a connecting flight when he was told to hang on, as there was a chance he'd be returning.
