Thank you Julie for answering the questions. Please remember she has a life outside of Endurance. This was done 2 weeks ago but I am only posting this now as I just got my laptop repaired.
Tristan: What are you doing and where do you live right now?
Julie: I recently launched my own business teaching music lessons online (prospective students can email me ). When I'm not working, I spend a lot of time volunteering at my Grandmom's nursing home where we sing. paint and watch a lot of Star Trek. I graduated from Harvard University Extension School in 2017 where I spent a lot of time learning classical music and sang with Harvard's all women chorus. the Radcliffe Choral Society. While I was at Harvard, I was in a nationally touring rock band and we played in venues like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and House of Blues in Boston. I also continued working as a National Anthem singer for the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.
Tristan: What was the Endurance audition process like?
Julie: I spent a lot of time at the gym training for the show and that part was really fun.
Tristan: How did you find out about the show?
Julie: My Mom found the open audition and I submitted!
Tristan: Was being on a televised competition more difficult or different than you expected?
Julie: I though it would be really difficult having a film crew following me around 24/7 but it was surprisingly easy! After a few days, I forgot they were there.
Tristan: Who were you closest to on the show?
Julie: Everyone on the show was really close but I was best friends with Amelia.
Tristan: Do you keep in contact with anyone on the show?
Julie: My bff is Alex Reid Varley from Endurance 3: Hawaii and we talk every day. We were in a girl group put together by Universal Music Group and realized that we were both on Endurance.
Tristan: Is their anyone you wish you kept in contact with from the show?
Julie: I wish I kept in contact with everyone on the show!
Tristan: If you could do Endurance over again? Is there anything you'd change?
Julie: I wouldn't change anything if I did Endurance again.
Tristan: What lessons did you learn from Endurance?
Julie: Before Endurance, I didn't realize the extent to which technology prevented me from forming deep, lasting connections with people. Not having technology allowed the contestants to become friends quickly because it force us to be present in moment together.
Tristan: How do you feel about the way you were portrayed on the show?
Julie: I was a little shy on the show but ultimately I'm happy with how I was portrayed.
Tristan: What are some of your fondest memories about the show?
Julie: At night, we would sneak out of our cabins and look at the stars. Tehachapi doesn't have a lot of light pollution so the night sky gets really dark at night and is absolutely filled with stars. It was so beautiful and peaceful. However we had to stop doing this because there was a wild animal that would run around our cabins at night and it was pretty scary.
Tristan: Are their any non-invasive ways fans from the show can contact you?
Julie: Find me on Instagram @juliedubela … I post a lot of dog videos and food pics. If you are interested in taking vocal, guitar or piano lessons, please send me an email at juliedubela@alumni.harvard.edu Thank you for interviewing me.
