The team that received it never used it. I guess if the other teams really wanted to conspire against them, they could have sent green(?) up, costing them the triangle and then sent them for real another time...
But still, a silly part of the show...essentially a free ride to the final.

Yeah, that's kind of what I said. For example, and I'm randomly picking teams here if Green wanted to send Purple and Blue, it's my understanding that they'd have to select another team and then Purple would be eligible for the next Temple.
The issue is that they never did, so looking back on it, the appearance of a free ride is present.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to do it. Because then it would just get Purple mad at you. Who's to say Purple wouldn't win the next mission and send you up just because you tried to send them up? I agree it was kind of pointless.

Perhaps the one impact of the piece was that it ended up costing them one of Red's pieces. If the immunity didn't exist, Red would have been sent to temple based on coming in last in the previous mission (like Purple in E4). Because Purple had the option to save Red, Red found them at fault for their elimination despite following Purple's wishes (particularly the team switch). Green got one piece right after their elimination and won Red's other in slingshot alley. If purple got one of Red's pieces following their elimination, maybe they would have entered the finale with a slight lead instead of Green (most of the time, the team who goes in with the lead wins).

I recently started watching E5 recently and I agree. I was not a fan of this twist and I definitely think it was too powerful. I was shocked Purple got it in the first place and not Red since Anna and Aeriel were really close. I think the power should have granted them immunity up to a certain point. The final four was way too unfair in my opinion.
