From Ring of Fire (about the Purple-Red-Orange-Gray alliance): "A four-team alliance right now seems to be pretty strong."
Do you think more teams can strengthen an alliance?
I think that while more teams can help an alliance, loyalty must be paramount. (See The Brotherhood for more information.)

I don't think it would last very long. Before long, teams would have to start turning on each other.

Exhibit A: the Brotherhood. The four guys from Orange, Blue, Purple and Green decided to go against the Red-Yellow-Gray alliance, because they were being influenced by them. However, Blue gave Orange the Samadhi and, when they won the Temple Mission, sent Green up so they would be gone. That would make sense, because the Purple-Green alliance, despite being two teams, made it to the final three before breaking up.

Wasn't Purple the second team eliminated after Gray? And wasn't Green eliminated in the final four? I think that alliance broke up sooner.

The Endurance Five alliance is the perfect example of this! Orange, Red, and Green all expected Purple to bring them to the end, and I think even Blue really trusted them too up until superteams.

I think there was also a four-team alliance in Endurance 2 with teams of Blue, Gray, Red, and Purple. All four of them were pretty much even, but three of them got picked off in succession, and Purple was the only team out of that group to make the final four before getting eliminated.

Clearly, the only team Purple really wanted to protect was Green. And for Blue, I think they trusted the four teams until Yellow was eliminated, where they became the lone outsider team. As for that E2 alliance, I consider it too splintered to be a full alliance.

The alliance broke up, actually, when Blue gave Orange the Samadhi in "Tilt". Gray was the first team eliminated, followed by Purple, Orange, and Green in that order.
