In the episode where Josie and Vaughn are lost in the woods, they see the old lab up on the hillside.
In the episode where Josie gets the super hearing, it is revealed that the lab is right beneath them (and attached to Victor's house.)
So which one is it? What exactly IS that thing up on the hill?

The floating ball was Josie's. It gained the floating power when it went with Josie through the wormhole. Victor stole it and kept it. Josie stole it back when she stopped time. The clone then took it. Josie then went back through time (in Inquiry) and then stole it back from her, which screwed things up with Victor's lab in Conclusions.
The floating ball was last seen when the janitor picked up after the struggle between Avenir and Josie.
...I think that's it.

The floating ball was the source which powered Victor's machine. The machine was what Josie jumped through at the end of the first episode, and what they saw later on when Josie lost her hearing.
Victor's machine gave the ability to travel through time. I'm guessing something got screwed up somewhere along the way, and the black hole was formed. (Maybe Avenir or the janitor had something to do with it.)
The show doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense if you watch episodes randomly. You really need to start at the beginning and go straight through to the end for things to make sense.
You need to know more?

i think the Pearadyne labs was up in the hills. there was a large explosion at the lab which people disappeared including Josie's mom. the quigon/floating ball is super powerful and caused the explosion creating a wormhole/black hole and a lot of strange things started happening after that. Avenir turns out to be the bad guy (and Josie's dad) and Victor is really a good guy.
