It's hard to build an audience when the show isn't even available to stream anymore. HBO Max has cut a LOT of stuff lately. In a way, Karma was just the beginning...but yeah, if/when JD pops up with something new, it could be anywhere and probably won't be Karma. Agreed. Unless someone buys the rights to Endurance/Moolah Beach/Karma I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I saw this on Twitter a while back and it's unverifiable of course but interesting food for thought

JD had a hand in the production of Karma, right? I find it surprising that his third attempt at a kid's competition would be canceled because of laws.
That's usually something that would happen with your first attempt.

That's usually something that would happen with your first attempt. That's true, but also times have drastically changed since JD's earlier shows, and new laws have been implemented as time goes on. You used to be able to get away with so much in unscripted competition shows for kids and teens (example: Kid Nation) that just would not fly nowadays. One of the biggest labor laws I can remember is that teens and kids can only be on camera for a set amount of hours depending on the state, whereas shows like Big Brother can film 24/7. I feel like that's why the genre of shows like Endurance and Karma are next to extinct in North America, because broadcast channels and production companies see it as too much of a risk. I believe that one of the challenges on Karma had a pretty bad accident which called for a challenge reset and and apparently they almost had to call a helicopter in.

Oh wow on the helicopter. Of course, who can forget Vanetta in Hawaii?

Even back then, I'm sure they had to sign waivers and all...but yeah, times have indeed changed. There was that show on DK where they'd put the kids in extreme climates and have them film their experience. Yeah....yikes in 2024.

That show was honestly a great concept for the time, but you will never see something like it again. Another show that this reminded me of is a show called Escape from Scorpion Island. It was a british show where young kids would compete in challenges that you see on MTV's The Challenge. No joke, these kids scaled down from helicopters and even sky dived in the first episode. I wonder what hoops producers would need to jump through to try to re-create shows like those.

And I just remembered (via reading) that the guide died when he was mauled by an elephant, essentially ending the series.

It's been almost a year since that tweet... I don't think a Karma comeback is likely. If it does happen, it would film in the summer though.
